Twin giant pandas Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei returned to China from a Tokyo zoo on the morning of January 28, 2026, marking the end of more than five decades of giant panda presence in Japan. The pair arrived in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, and will undergo quarantine at the Ya'an base of China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Born in 2021, the much-loved twins leave behind warm memories. Hundreds of devoted fans braved the winter chill outside the zoo to bid an emotional farewell as the truck carrying the pandas drove away. (Produced by interns Li Linmo and Tang Kexin)
