China's water infrastructure system in numbers
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), China invested a total of 5.68 trillion yuan (about $810 billion) in water conservancy projects.
Since 2022, annual investment in these projects has exceeded 1 trillion yuan for four consecutive years.
As a result, China has built the world's largest and most comprehensive water infrastructure system, benefiting more people than any other country.
Notably, rural tap water coverage has reached an impressive 96 percent.
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan Period (2026-2030), China aims to accelerate the development of a modern water network.
