During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), China invested a total of 5.68 trillion yuan (about $810 billion) in water conservancy projects. Since 2022, annual investment in these projects has exceeded 1 trillion yuan for four consecutive years. As a result, China has built the world's largest and most comprehensive water infrastructure system, benefiting more people than any other country. Notably, rural tap water coverage has reached an impressive 96 percent.
