Huawei presents Tau (τ) Scaling Law, enabling breakthroughs in transistor density, system performance
At the 2026 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) held on Monday in Shanghai, He Tingbo, Director of the Board of Huawei and President of Huawei's Semiconductor Business Department, presented the Tau (τ) Scaling Law, enabling breakthroughs in transistor density, system performance.
The Tau (τ) Scaling Law proposes replacing geometric scaling with time (τ) scaling.
This is the first time that China proposes a new principle for guiding the future development of the semiconductor industry.
By 2031, the high-end chips Huawei designs based on the τ Scaling Law are expected to feature a transistor density that is equivalent to 14 Å (1.4 nm) processes.
