Ministry Minutes | China-Europe economic and trade relations not zero-sum game but mutually beneficial: foreign ministry
China has stated many times that the deep integration and interdependence between China and Europe in the industrial and supply chains is a result of economic globalization and market forces, and is in the interests of companies on both sides.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks during a daily press conference on Monday.
"We want to ask, how can choices made by European companies based on cost, technology, and efficiency be considered 'over-reliance'? Isn't the EU's so-called 'diversification' just a disguised form of protectionism?" Lin said. "The EU's measures do not help improve the competitiveness of European industries and run counter to the EU's consistent principles of market economy, fair competition and free trade."
Bringing up the old Chinese saying, "Do not do unto others what you would not have others do unto you," Lin noted that China-EU economic and trade relations are not a zero-sum game but can absolutely be mutually beneficial and win-win.
China's attitude towards resolving China-EU economic and trade differences is open and proactive. China hopes the EU will work with China to resolve issues through dialogue and consultation, and promote China-EU economic and trade cooperation to better benefit businesses and people on both sides.
