On August 1, 25-year-old soldier Yang Shunlin rescued three people who had been swept away by strong currents while vacationing in Lingshui, Hainan Province. Hearing cries for help, he rushed into the waves with a float ring despite not being a strong swimmer. He first saved two children and then returned to rescue an exhausted adult. After drifting about 100 meters offshore with the man, they were finally rescued by a motorboat. Yang serves in Baoding, Hebei Province, and was vacationing with his family in Lingshui.
