One green haven, six linked villages

Xixinan village, a tourist spot at the foot of Mount Huangshan in East China's Anhui Province, first went viral off the back of a handful of photos of fairy-tale greenery in 2023. The boom left the village facing new questions: how to earn money without ticket sales and how to share the benefits with neighboring villages instead of competing with them? Xixinan and five nearby villages in Xixinan Town found an answer by working together. Their revenues have surpassed 1 million yuan (about $140,000) each in 2025, making sure the rising tide lifts all boats.
