Five segments of elevated highways were rotated into place at the same time in 82 minutes on Friday in Southwest China’s Chongqing. It is part of a project of the western section of the Chongqing expressway 2nd transverse line.
The project is the world's first simultaneous turning of five highway segments at the same time, setting a new world record in terms of the number and total weight of bridges. The five segments have a total length of 383.5 meters and a total weight of 21,500 tons.
Zhang Wenxue, a professor of construction engineering at the Beijing University of Technology, commented that the project's innovative rotation method, in which four segments rotate counterclockwise and one rotates clockwise, has overcome difficult operational problems.
Upon full completion, the project will improve the living conditions of residents and further promote the construction of a Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle in Southwest China.
