Ahead of the Spring Festival last year, President Xi Jinping visited a village of the Wa ethnic group in Southwest China's Yunnan Province.
In the village’s public square, Xi beat a wooden drum three times, following a local custom.
The hits carry three wishes: favorable weather for bumper harvests, peace for the country and the people, and peace for the whole world.
The wooden drum is a symbol of the Wa people, who mainly live in border areas of Yunnan.
Their population of roughly 400,000 has shaken off poverty.
Every festival, they celebrate with wooden drums and hair-swaying dances.
Just like the popular joyful song Awa People Sing New Song, Wa people are leading a better and better life.
