Brigadier Georgios Bikakis, director of concepts and capabilities from the European Union's European External Action Service, called for a common and shared world with peaceful dialogues at the 9th Beijing Xiangshan forum on Tuesday.
"The world indeed has been changed because we are interconnected," Bikakis said. He said security challenges, whether traditional or nontraditional, are interconnected as well.
Bikakis believes each country should cooperate with others to find ways to deal with challenges and create a common and shared, peaceful and secure environment.
Bikakis recognizes that there are similarities and differences between the Beijing Xiangshan Forum and the dialogues in the EU.
"But we know that for us to feel secure and safe, we must see beyond our borders," Bikakis said, "because conflicts in Africa, Asia, America or other places cannot be isolated."
Bikakis praised China's military parade in Oct. 1 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
"One nation should be strong in order to show that it's not aggressive but to defend its interests," he said. "I know in many other areas, China contributes to a large number of UN peacekeeping forces. This is an obligation not only for big global powers but also for any country that can contribute to global security."
