Glove puppets, also known as hand puppets, originated from Fujian Province in China in the 17th century and later on became popular in Taiwan.
A puppet is usually very heavy, so puppeteers have to hold puppets over their shoulders during performances.
The puppets are also beautiful, with extremely delicate details. They are not only puppets, but also works of art.
Traditional Taiwanese puppets, manipulated by puppeteers, were traditionally displayed on a small platform in front of temples. Puppet performances now are featured on television. This allows more advanced interactions with audience members, and the use of visual effects and stage technology.
