British scholar Martin Jacques, also a senior fellow at the China Institute at Fudan University, talks about the development dilemma of Hong Kong and his understanding of the "one country, two systems" policy in an interview with Guan Video.
Hong Kong got lucky during its development, Jacques said. “They got lucky because of China, and the role that China was performing.”
“Britain ran Hong Kong for 155 years. I want to tell you something: there was never a semblance of democracy,” Jacques said.
Hong Kong “needs to think of itself more in terms of being part of China,” he said.
