The primacy of the people has been fully reflected in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, said Xu Lin, director of the State Council Information Office at a media conference as China issued a white paper on the country's battle against COVID-19 on Sunday.
"When an unknown virus suddenly struck, the Chinese people had great trust in the country's leadership, the Party and the government, and consciously assumed responsibility and shared the country's concerns," he said.
"The 1.4 billion Chinese people, regardless of gender and age, have acted in unison under the common understanding that to protect oneself is to protect others and to make contributions to the country," Xu noted.
He said the Chinese actions in combating COVID-19 fully embody their love for nation and country, which is a cultural trait and traditional characteristic of the Chinese nation.
