Rian, 29, is from Brazil and has been in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, for two years. He is a full-time English teacher in a kindergarten in the city.
In China, the Spring Festival is an occasion to stay with family. Many people came back home from afar to share the moment together. This year Rian celebrated the Spring Festival with friends in China. They made dumplings together, which is Rian’s favorite activity.
Rian visited China twice before, when he was a kid visiting his parents who worked in the country. During one trip, he celebrated the Lantern Festival with his parents. At that time, the family tasted delicious food and traveled around China. The different cultural ambiance gave Rian a constant sense of freshness and exploration, which encouraged him to explore more of Chinese culture, like traditional clothing and calligraphy.
Rian knows that there are 12 signs in Chinese zodiac, and this year is the Year of the Rabbit, which means auspiciousness. He expressed best wishes by saying; “Happy New Year, and wishing you a happy Year of the Rabbit” in Chinese.
