As new Emperor Naruhito attended various events at the palace related to his ascension on Wednesday (May 1), a farm near Tokyo decided to use their flock of 150 sheep to mark the occasion.
Mother Farm, a farm theme park, organised the event where the hungry sheep ran out and formed the Chinese characters for "Reiwa", the name of the new era which means "beautiful harmony" - encouraged by food arranged in the shape of the words.
The theme park said the sheep will make the "Reiwa" formation every day until May 31 to fete the ascension of Emperor Naruhito following the abdication of Akihito on April 30, which ended his 30-year reign.
