Small as they may be, people’s leisure and fitness are things that Chinese President Xi Jinping pays great attention to.
“It’s necessary to create more places for citizens to enjoy leisure and sports, and to make people’s lives more convenient and more colorful,” Xi said when he visited a community in Qingdao, Shandong Province in June 2018.
The General Administration of Sport has been promoting the opening of large stadiums to the public for free or low fees, as well as improving fitness facilities around the country. Many cities have built a “15-minute fitness circle,” which means a convenient fitness space within a 15-minute walk from people’s communities.
China will provide more facilities for the public to exercise to inspire a commitment to lifelong wellness, according to a two-year national plan released by China’s General Administration of Sport and its National Development and Reform Commission in January 2019.
