A snow squall on Wednesday suddenly hit New York, covering the region with whiteout conditions.
The National Weather Service issued the squall warning at 4:15 pm, which lasted until 5:40 pm.
In fact, the squall warnings, as a relatively new kind of warning from the National Weather Service, just started being issued about a year ago. The explanation of the snow squalls was provided by the NWS New York office for the people who are still not clear about the snow squalls. Snow squalls are short-lived heavy snow fall with the strong and intensive blowing wind, which often happens during the daytime and will stay no more than three hours.
