A dance inspired by a famous ancient artwork grabbed the attention of the nation after it was performed at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the most-viewed television show of the year in China.
The dance is part of dance drama "Five Stars Rise in the East" that was inspired by the brocade armband dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), unearthed at the Niya ruins in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1995.
The fabric is hailed as one of the greatest discoveries of Chinese archaeology in the 20th century.
It features eight Chinese seal script characters, meaning "Five stars rise in the east, benefit China," ancient astronomy references and totems of rare animals with auspicious meaning, showing an exquisite weaving process and traditional Chinese aesthetics.
