Tadashi Shoji looked to space for inspiration for his Spring 2019 collection.
The Japan-born designer took New York Fashion Week attendees to a galaxy far away on September 6 to seek hope and escape earth's bad news.
The collection reflected the theme via shimmering and sensual fabrics and colors with celestial-shaped motifs on chiffon, crepe and tulle.
Shoji launched his namesake label in 1982 and even though he has witnessed changes in the fashion industry, he is confident the quality of his garments and the high-end clients he attracts, will not drive people from fashion shows and brick and mortar stores.
The designer says he doesn't mind the pressure of the creating collections and runway shows and compares the work to being a writer.
Make-up was true to the space feel with dark streaks of colored glitter above the eyes and simple and sleek, pulled-back hair.
New York Fashion Week runs through September 12.
