Ottelia acuminata is a unique water plant found in lakes in Guangxi, Guangdong, Yunnan and Guizhou. The ottelia acuminata is known as a "water quality vane," and will bloom when the water is clean, and also will wither after the water is polluted. Its annual blooming season is from May to October. It is also called a "water beauty" for its stunning flowers, and was included on China's endangered and protected plants list in 1987.
This year in Erhai Lake in Dali, hundreds of pale white petals with small yellow stamens float above the water as these amazing flowers bloom. They turn the sparkling lake into a fairyland, and people revel in the beautiful scene.
