Today is the second day of the second month of the Chinese lunar calendar. According to Chinese folk customs, this is a time for a new start. People celebrate by eating pancakes and noodles, and getting a haircut or an entirely new hairstyle. This tradition is known as “shaving the dragon’s head.”  This is usually the beauty industry’s busiest day. But this year, with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, people are staying home.

Many barbers and hairstylists this year are taking their scissors and hairdryers to hospitals, police stations and housing complexes to contribute their skills to people in need.

This action contributes to their hometowns, but also supports the people of Wuhan in spirit.
