Feng Leping started out life as a typical rural villager, but won fame, wealth and political influence by starting a successful watermelon business.
Feng is the president of the Beijing Agri-products Association and serves as a deputy to the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC).
Inspired by a business opportunity in Beijing’s satellite Panggezhuang village, which has a reputation for good-quality watermelons, Feng decided to start her firm. She sells watermelons specifically to middle-to-high-end customers.
Feng’s success has enabled her to create numerous jobs for young people, and build new farms across China. After becoming an NPC deputy, Feng advocated for encouraging more talent to enter the farm industry and building a healthy China by ensuring food safety.
This short video will bring you Feng’s vivid and ebullient story of cultivating her watermelon business, and also serves as a tribute to mark Friday’s International Women’s Day.
