A surveillance camera captured the moment that a man pushed a woman onto the tracks in front of an oncoming metro train in Belgium. Fortunately, the metro driver managed to stop the train before running over her.
The video, made public on Friday, was taken at Rogier metro station in Brussels, Belgium.
In the video, the man crept up behind the woman, before shoving her onto the tracks. A passenger on the platform jumped off the tracks to come to her rescue.
According to Brussels officials, the man was arrested several minutes later at another metro station in the city. He has been charged with attempted homicide.
“The driver reacted very well but is in shock, as is the victim,” a spokesman for the Brussels public transit company said in an interview.
A similar incident took place hours later in New York, when a 40-year-old Asian woman was pushed off the platform at Times Square subway station and died Friday morning. The suspect later turned himself in and was arrested by the police. Police described the case as an "unprovoked" attack.
