1 killed, 2 injured in Belgrade downtown shootout

BELGRADE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A 31-year-old ex-employee of a company in downtown Belgrade entered an office of the company on Monday morning and shot at two former colleagues, killing one and getting himself and another colleague injured, the police said.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), when the former employee with initials N.S. shot several bullets with a handgun in the direction of two other workers, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

One person died later, while the other worker was injured when trying to escape the scene by jumping through a window, it said.

The suspect then fled the scene and was later found in his apartment in Belgrade with serious injuries.

The crime scene has been blocked with heavy police forces.

According to local reports, the attacker was fired from his job last week. He attempted to commit suicide after the attack by detonating a hand grenade at the company's premises.
