MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen people were injured when a long-distance bus collided with a truck on a highway in Afghanistan's eastern Wardak province, authorities said on Thursday.

"The accident occurred along the Kabul-Kandahar Highway in Maidan Shar, capital of Wardak province, Wednesday night. The injured were shifted to a main hospital in Maidan Shar," a police official from the provincial Traffic Police Directorate told Xinhua.

According to the source, the injured were in satisfactory condition. The bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving pending further investigation.

Road mishaps are frequent in the mountainous country and occur mostly due to reckless driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
