2021 is set to be the costliest year for disasters in the United States. According to a NOAA analysis, the U.S. was hit by 18 weather and climate disaster events that cost over $1 billion.

The events range from the droughts and wildfires in the west, the cold snap in Texas, and tropical storms and hurricanes in the southern U.S.

The numbers have been more costly than the previous year, with $104.8 billion so far this year, compared to the $100.4 billion in costs in 2020 from 22 weather and climate disaster events.
