21 killed after explosions rip Mexican fireworks workshop

Mexico City (People's Daily) –An explosion at a fireworks factory Thursday in Tultepec, a small town outside of Mexico City killed 21 and injured dozens more, according to Mexico state’s Secretary of Health Gabriel O'Shea.

It was reported that 49 people sustained injuries from two early morning blasts and were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Among the fatalities include four firefighters and two police officers, first responders who had arrived after the first blast and were killed when the second blast went off. 

Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto lamented the lives lost from the explosions. 

Thursday's incident marks the second tragedy to strike the factory in weeks where an explosion claimed one life and injured six on June 25..
