DHAKA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- A cylinder-shaped war-time bomb weighing around 250 kg was found Wednesday buried at a construction site of Bangladesh's main Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in capital Dhaka, said the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).

ISPR, a department under the defence ministry, in a statement said that the workers first noticed the cylinder-like general purpose (GP) bomb about three metres deep in the ground when they were excavating for construction of the third terminal of the airport at around 9:00 a.m. local time Wednesday.

On receipt of information, members of the bomb disposal unit of the Bangladesh Air Force's Bangabandhu Base rushed to the scene and defused the bomb which was later sent for demolition.

ISPR said experts identified it as an air-dropped bomb.

They are assuming that it was dropped sometime in 1971, ISPR said.
