27 killed in firecracker factory fire near Jakarta, Indonesia

A firecracker factory in Tanggerang, an outskirt city of the Indonesian capital, caught fire on Thursday, leaving 27 workers dead and 35 others wounded, a senior firefighter at the scene, Oni Sahroni, told a local TV.

Most of the bodies were found in a production room of the factory which is operated by PT Panca Buana, the firefighter said.

According to police chief in Tanggerang, Senior Commissioner Hari Kurniawan, the incident was allegedly triggered by short circuit.

All the injured have been rushed into nearby hospitals for treatment.
