NEW DELHI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were dead and many others injured after a passenger train derailed in India's eastern state of West Bengal on Thursday.
The accident occurred in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. The train Bikaner Express was then heading from Patna to Guwahati, the capital city of the northeastern state of Assam.
According to media reports, around 12 coaches of the train suffered damage in the accident.
"Following a sudden jerk, several bogies overturned. There are casualties," one of the passengers was quoted as saying by media reports.
Rescue work is underway on the spot.
