Washington (People’s Daily) -  A gunman opened fire Sunday at a Madden video game tournament along Jacksonville's river walk, leaving three people dead, including the gunman, and nine others wounded, Florida authorities said.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old David Katz from Baltimore, is dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Hours earlier, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office sent an alert via Twitter that read, "Mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing. Stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY!”

Officials also say there are "multiple fatalities" and "many transported" to hospitals after a mass shooting at a riverfront mall in Jacksonville.

The shooting occurred during a qualifying event for the Madden 19-e Sports Tournament at the GLHF Game Bar, according to the Twitter page of CompLexity Gaming, one of the gaming teams.

One Madden participant, Young Drini, was grazed in the hand and is away from the scene and safe, Complexity said.

The shooting took place less than two days after a gunman opened fire at a high school stadium during a football game a few miles away, killing one and injuring two.
