KABUL, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Three Taliban local leaders, including an insurgents' shadow provincial governor, have been killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan's western Farah province, Afghan Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

Mullah Abdul Bari, shadow Taliban governor for Farah, was killed together with Mullah Saddiq and Mawlawi Sayyed following a sortie in Khaki Safed district Friday night, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement did not detail whether the strike was conducted by Afghan Air Force or NATO-led coalition forces.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between Taliban militants and security forces for long.

Fightings between government forces and Taliban fighters often get intense in spring and summer as the seasons are locally branded as the fighting time of year.

The militant group has not made a comment on the report so far.
