BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 jolted south of the Kermadec Islands at 1508 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 35.0 km, was initially determined to be at 33.3051 degrees south latitude and 178.9194 degrees west longitude.
