NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 jolted 48 km northwest of Minas de Marcona, Peru at 22:59:12 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.36 km, was initially determined to be at 15.0234 degrees south latitude and 75.5146 degrees west longitude.
