WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted North of Ascension Island at 0958 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 0.1069 degrees north latitude and 17.0858 degrees west longitude.
