5.5-magnitude quake strikes Japan's Chiba Prefecture: JMA

TOKYO, May 4 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on Monday struck northeastern Chiba Prefecture in Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor occurred at around 10:07 p.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 35.7 degrees north and a longitude of 140.6 degrees east, and at depth of 50 km.

The quake logged 4 in some parts of Chiba Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
