BANGKOK, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed in a blaze aboard a double-decker bus in northeastern Thailand early Tuesday, police said.

Two of the five deceased victims were children, who were seated on the top deck when the bus caught on fire on Mittraphap Road in Ban Haet district of Khon Kaen province, said provincial police commander Phutthiphong Musikul.

Twelve others, including the bus driver, were injured in the blaze, which was believed to occur immediately after a rear tire burst, Phutthiphong said.

The bus with 34 people on board was heading to Bangkok from Udon Thani province when the accident occurred.

There was no immediate cause given for the accident.
