MOSCOW, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Russian security forces have detained seven individuals suspected of terrorist plot in the Moscow region, the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement Monday.

According to preliminary investigation, the suspects conspired to create a secret cell of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the statement said.

The detainees have carried out campaign work since 2016 to recruit new supporters and involve them in activities of the organization, including planned attacks on law enforcement officers, it said.

Currently, searches and other urgent investigative actions are proceeding with the aim of identifying all the participants of the group, the committee said.

The operation to curb the activities of the cell was carried out jointly by investigators of the Investigative Committee, the Federal Security Service (FSB) officers, policemen and the National Guard, it said.
