Africa's COVID-19 death toll surpasses 3,200 as total cases exceed 107,000

ADDIS ABABA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases across Africa rose from 103,933 on Saturday morning to 107,412 as of Sunday morning, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Sunday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency, which noted that the virus has so far spread into 54 African countries, also disclosed that some 42,626 people who have been infected with the COVID-19 have recovered across the continent as of Sunday morning.

The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic across the African continent also surged from 3,183 on Saturday morning to 3,246 as of Sunday morning, according to the Africa CDC.

The Africa CDC added that the Northern African region is the most affected area across the continent both in terms of positive COVID-19 cases, as well as the number of deaths.
