MEXICO CITY, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 people were killed and 24 were injured on Tuesday after their passenger bus turned over just north of Mexico City, local authorities reported.

The accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. (0715 GMT) along a highway linking Mexico City with Toluca, capital of the central State of Mexico, near Ocoyoacac, a suburb of Toluca, local officials said.

Among the fatal victims were five women, five men and three minors.

Rescue workers said they had transported 24 people to different area hospitals.

Local media published images of the crash, which showed the bus operated by the Futura Select company turned over on its right side as some of the fatal victims lay on the ground.

According to the authorities, the bus was traveling from the Pacific Coast resort of Acapulco, in southern Guerrero state, toward the western state of Jalisco.
