TEHRAN, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that an Australian citizen is held in detention in Iran for violating the country's national security, Tehran Times daily reported on Sunday.

Australian woman Kylie Moore Gilbert was arrested in Iran in September. She was accused of spying.

"She has been arrested on charge of violating Iran's national security, and the competent court has also issued the appropriate ruling by observing all relevant laws," Mousavi was quoted as saying.

"This Australian citizen is serving her sentence while enjoying all legal rights, like any other convicts," said Mousavi.
