SARAJEVO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Zoran Tegeltija, newly-appointed Chairman of Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), promised Thursday to speed up BiH's process of joining the European Union (EU).

After his appointment was confirmed at an emergency session of the BiH's parliament, Tegeltija said he will form a state government as soon as possible, and lead the new government to speed up the process of joining the EU.

On Nov. 19, BiH's constituent presidency, organized on an ethnic basis, agreed to appoint Tegeltija as the chairman of the Council of Ministers, the head of the BiH government.

The appointment was welcomed by the public as it marked the end of wrangling among BiH's three main parties following the country's general elections on Oct. 7, 2018.

BiH applied for membership of the EU on Feb. 15, 2016, but has not been granted the official status of membership candidate yet.
