LA PAZ, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian antinarcotics forces seized 220.7 tons of drugs during 8,261 operations between January and September this year, an official said here on Tuesday.

With the support of some international bodies, Bolivia's antinarcotics model is "producing important results," Deputy Interior Minister Jose Luis Quiroga told the press.

Of the 220.7 tons of drugs seized, 6.6 tons were cocaine paste, 4.9 were cocaine, 204.5 corresponded to marijuana plantations and 4.5 to marijuana ready for sale, the minister said.

During the first eight months of 2019, police elite groups and the task force apprehended 2,582 Bolivian and foreign suspects, said Colonel Maximiliano Davila, national chief of the Bolivian Special Counternarcotics Police Force (FELCN).

Davila also announced the preparation of a joint operation with Argentina to fight drug-trafficking.

The FELCN will work along with the Argentine National Gendarmerie to battle drug-trafficking and other cross-border crimes.
