The president spent 10 days in a Sao Paulo hospital to recover from a hernia surgery necessitated by the weakening of abdominal tissues from three previous surgeries after he was stabbed last year during the election campaign.

Bolsonaro stayed in the hospital for three more days from Friday for better recovery.

During Bolsonaro's recovery, Vice President Hamilton Mourao was designated as acting president.

Bolsonaro is expected to resume his duties on Wednesday, and he is scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sept. 23.
