Para is going to be the new headquarters of the Integrated Center for Public Security Intelligence of the North, Jungmann added.

In just six days last week, a total of 50 homicides were registered in Para’s capital Belém, according to the public security authority. Four-fifths of the deaths were registered in the capital.

The number of crimes has shifted a lot compared to the beginning of last year, when 14 homicides were registered in the first week of January in every state.

In the survey, 22 deaths in the Santa Izabel prison were not counted during an attempted escape last Tuesday. One prison guard and 21 detainees were killed.

The homicide rate in Brazil is 20-30 out of 100,000 inhabitants, United Nations on Drugs and Crime said, placing this country in the top 20 countries by intentional homicide rate.

Crime in Brazil involves an elevated incidence of violent and non-violent crimes. According to most sources, Brazil possesses high rates of violent crimes, including murders and robberies.
