The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday in an invite to diplomats accredited to the East African country said a ceremony is scheduled for June 18 in the central province of Gitega.

Ndayishimiye, who was elected on May 20, was previously scheduled to take office on Aug. 20 when Nkurunziza's term ends.

Nkurunziza died on June 8, and the Constitutional Court ruled later that Ndayishimiye's swearing in be brought forward.

Ndayishimiye will serve a seven-year term in office and can renew the term once if elected.
