CAIRO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cairo ICT 2020, Egypt's largest information and communications technology (ICT) exhibition, provides a major platform for local and international companies to expand businesses in the Middle East.

Inaugurated by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the 24th ICT Exhibition and Conference, known as Cairo ICT 2020, kicked off on Sunday in Cairo with the participation of a large number of firms, including China's ICT giant Huawei, which been joining this event for 12 consecutive years.

"This is the 20th year for Huawei in Egypt and we are very proud to join the ICT Cairo events every year," Leo Liu, vice president of Huawei Northern Africa Enterprise Business Group Solution Sales Department, told Xinhua.

He noted that the company's participation in the expo affirms Huawei's policy to back the endurance of developing the information and communications sector in Egypt.

Huawei wants to take advantage of the event to present its most recent solutions and projects for the smart enterprises, he said, adding that Huawei is always willing to exchange experiences with all developers and partners.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Huawei's business is growing in Egypt and globally, Liu noted.

"We are more popular now as more customers buy our smartphones and other products ... people choose Huawei because we provide the best technologies," he said, adding that Huawei is now the leader of 5G technology.

He stressed that the ICT giant provides technologies that protect investment and improve the efficiency of companies, banks and government institutions.

Held in Egypt International Exhibition Center, the four-day event is also joined by Egyptian ministries of communications and information technology, defense, interior and planning, and the Central Bank of Egypt.

This year's edition is meant to emphasize the fact that the COVID-19 brings business risks and opportunities.
