Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming on Wednesday urged European politicians to stop interfering in the affairs of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

"China has never interfered in other countries' internal affairs and we strongly oppose interference in China's internal affairs by any country," Liu said, adding that the national security law had been "warmly welcomed by Hong Kong residents."

Liu made the remarks during an online speech on China-Europe relations, noting that China and Europe should work together to translate the diversity and differences into vitality and further progress.

In addition, speaking on UK's 5G ban on Huawei, the ambassador called the ban "disheartening," adding that other Chinese businesses are closely following how Huawei is being treated by the UK.
