New York (People's Daily) - In response to the baseless accusations against China on issues related to Xinjiang and Hong Kong recently made by the United States and a few other countries, Ambassador Zhang Jun, the permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations, spoke at the Third Committee of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, resolutely refuting their statements and wrongful acts that have interfered China’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, provoking confrontation at the United Nations.

The ambassador said that at the current Third Committee meetings, the United States and a few other countries, following their old habits, have made attempts to use human rights to interfere in China’s internal affairs. China totally rejects such acts.

It must be pointed out that the trend of the world is unstoppable, and bullying the weak receives no support. The representatives from some countries like to criticize developing countries and give orders on human rights, but China urges these countries to abandon hegemony and power politics to stop all the wrong deeds that go against the trend of history.

It must be pointed out that one must examine himself before critiquing others. Some countries create troubles everywhere, plotting “color revolutions” and seriously violating the human rights of people from the relevant countries. After such acts they show no remorse for the terrible human rights records of their own. China urges these countries to do more self-reflection and clean up their own houses instead of provoking troubles.

It must be pointed out that China’s developmental achievements are widely recognized, and this record weakens human rights accusations against China. China has traveled a journey in several decades which took many developed countries several centuries. On a land of 9.6 million square kilometers, there is no fear of war or displacement, and nearly 1.4 billion people are living in peace, freedom and happiness— this is human rights protection in the best sense and best practice. China urges relevant countries to stop the wrong acts of politicization and double standards. China also urges these countries to stop meddling with China’s internal affairs and come back to the right track of dialogue and cooperation.
