China has lodged solemn representations with the US in Beijing and Washington over US Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar's upcoming visit to Taiwan, and urged the US to stop all forms of official contact with Taiwan, and not to send the wrong signal to Taiwan secessionists, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a daily press conference on Wednesday.

“Taiwan-related issue is the most important and sensitive issue in China-US relations. The one-China principle is the political foundation of China-US relations,” Wang said.

“We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, and stop all forms of official contact with Taiwan. This issue shall be handled carefully and properly. The US shall not send the wrong signal to Taiwan secessionists, which may seriously damage China-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,”said Wang.

“The one-China principle is a consensus recognized by the international community. Any attempt to ignore, deny or challenge the principle will fail,” Wang added.
