Washington (People’s Daily) – The US Justice Department’s repression of scientists and normal China-US scientific and technological exchanges in the name of combating economic espionage have evoked doubts among visionary people in the US, a spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in the US said, referring to the Charles Lieber case.

“We urge the US to listen to the call for justice from within, and stop this wrong practice,” said the spokesperson.

Lieber, a professor of Harvard University, was convicted recently for lying about his ties with China’s “Thousand Talent Program.”

China’s "Thousand Talent Plan" respects scientists and technology and protects intellectual property rights. China opposes all efforts to stigmatize this plan, and supports and champions the global mobility of scientific knowledge and talent, the spokesperson said.
